Program Description

Egypt has made significant improvements in the provision of water and wastewater services to its citizens, primarily through capital investment projects. The USAID-funded Water and Wastewater Sector Support (WWSS) program, implemented by Chemonics International, seeks to build on this progress by strengthening the capacity of national and regional water and wastewater companies to deliver quality services in a cost-effective fashion. By providing technical support in utility management, the project team is assisting water and wastewater companies to implement recent Government of Egypt reforms aimed at improving operational performance, and attracting private investments to the sector. To achieve these goals, the project has four key objectives:

* Increase the financial and commercial viability of existing water and wastewater companies.

* Establish new regional water and wastewater companies.

* Develop and implement capital investment planning and project monitoring and management mechanisms.

* Build the capacity of staff, increase managerial, technical and operational efficiency, improve the quality of services, and expand access to water and sanitation.
